To Save Money

One good reason to start doing zumba at home is to save money on a gym membership. It’s true that you will need some equipment, such as a mat and a set of dumbbells, but these are pieces of equipment that you can continue to use long after you complete a zumba program.

What’s more, you can keep your zumba regimen based on your own schedule, whether you have time to exercise during the week, after work on the weekend, or once you’re done with work for the summer.

Another bonus of working out at home is the flexibility that it offers you. If you have a busy schedule, then this is a great feature. Someone who works shift work can fit in a tiny workout while they are home at night. If you have older kids who are on vacation, you can still get in a workout while they head to and from activities. And if you’re really busy, you can always set up a great playlist and schedule a Zumba marathon.

Just remember that you’ll save a lot of money, not just on the zumba program, but also on all of your gym and spa services by working out at home.

You Can Workout at Your Own Pace

One of the first questions that people ask themselves when trying Zumba for the first time is whether they will be able to keep up with the class. You can’t really Zumba in isolation, can you? You need to have a class and other Zumba enthusiasts around in order to do it.

It took some getting used to at first and was definitely intimidating but I was surprised to find out that it is really fun. Since I was engaged with the other people there, it didn’t really feel like I was working out.

Whether you are an outgoing person or not, you can definitely tune in and join in whenever you feel like it. The instructor usually encourages people who think they can’t do Zumba because Zumba is not really about how you move, it is about having fun. It is about having a good time with people you are comfortable with, and not being too shy to just take it slow. Even if you never really end up being the most popular Zumba star in your class, you can at least say that you tried.

To Build Your Confidence

Zumba at home is not the same as regular Zumba classes, but it’s a great way to get many of the benefits of this popular dance class. Without a dancer nearby to show you what to do, following the DVD instructions can feel a little confusing.

What is interval training?

Getting to Interval Training

Zumba is not the only way to get interval training but it is one of the best. You will burn the most calories when you do the following three things:

  • Exercise intensely
  • Exercise quickly
  • Exercise rapidly

How to Zumba at Home

In case you missed it, the word is out that Zumba fitness classes deliver a total body workout that’s easy, fun, and addictive. Their classes have become popular across the country. You will find them in your local gym as well as in many community centers.

But what if you can’t get to a Zumba class? Or maybe you are an active senior who can’t get to the gym or to the local community center for the Zumba classes, also known as Zumba Gold classes that are geared towards the “not-so-active adults. ” Don’t stress. You can Zumba right at home. Here are the steps:

You Can Zumba All By Yourself!

If you have ever been to a Zumba class at your local gym or community center, then you know there is usually a dancer right in front of you who is the instructor that has put together the moves and cues you are following as part of the class.

Surround yourself with similar people, at the same place, at the same time, with the same types of moves, and in general, a similar environment to the one in which you did your first Zumba class. Allow your brain to lapse into a similar state of mind, and what you will record in your brain will be far more similar than different.

Merengue Step

Take a small step with your left foot directly forward and open your arms out to the sides to shoulder height.

Reggaeton Steps

Salsa steps

It’s really easy to find salsa classes in your local area, and Latin dance clubs love getting people involved. However, most people don’t have the opportunity to jump on a plane and enjoy a great vacation while learning a new dance. Thankfully, dance steps aren’t impossible to learn at home.

Zumba is a dance style that has become a significant factor in Latin dance classes. Zumba is an easy dance style that anyone of any age can learn. No matter what skill level you currently have, you can learn Zumba and join the party.

Just a few steps are all you need to get started, and soon enough, you’ll be busting a move to latin music. Since Zumba has become so popular in the past few years, most people are at least passingly familiar with it, which makes it easier to understand.

A few basic moves will help you build a solid foundation, and you can learn more moves as you go. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’ll find that a salsa class might be a little easier to handle. In the meantime, have fun dancing around your living room and living it up like you’re in the tropics.

What Exactly Is Zumba?

Invented in the 1990’s Zumba is a dance fitness class that originated in Columbia. Combining dance and aerobics, this full body exercise can be done at home or in the gym. Zumba is a melting pot of different styles of fitness; from hip-hop, salsa, merengue, mambo, and cha-cha. The routine includes moves from yoga, aerobics, belly dance and belly-flop…. Seriously! This is the most fun you will have fitnessing.

Why Would I Want to Try Zumba Over Other Fitness Programs?

This is a question of what your goals are. If you want to lose weight then zumba is a great alternative to running or other aerobic programs. A Zumba dance routine has a high caloric burn and depending on your weight you can drop pounds in a very short time. The rhythm and Latin music will get you moving, burning fat and calories and toning various muscles.

How Do I Get Started?

Zumba is not hard to learn, so jumping right in is not a problem. Just watch a few videos like the one above or take a class. You can get a package at your local Wal-Mart or buy a DVD with a wide selection of routines and an entire instructional manual.

How Often Should you do Zumba?

One point I think must be addressed is that you should always have fun while doing Zumba at home or with a group like yours. While you want to keep it interesting and fresh, Zumba has to be enjoyable for you or it won’t be worth doing. If you find the daily exercise you’re doing to keep your body fit is something to dread, then it becomes more of a punishment, and that is never going to lead to long-term results. I’ve been to quite a few Zumba classes, and believe me, the bad ones are that way for a reason. The instructors are usually too over the top with the music and will either make up and do all kinds of crazy moves that you cannot follow at all or jump around on stage and dance like a maniac. You can try to get into that sort of nonsense for a week or two but if you can’t get used to it, then they are not the kind of instructors you will enjoy.

However, there are also the instructors who are just plain boring. They stand there and just count down and then do the steps the entire time. Have you ever been to one of those? Probably not. But people go every day, week after week. They are there because of societal obligation. They have learned to set aside their fun and enjoyment and just do the steps week after week.

What Should I wear to Zumba?

You don’t really need to wear anything special to Zumba. If you have workout clothes or old clothes, those are just fine. Still, there’s one thing that most people don’t think of when they hear the word “Zumba”: shoes.

You can practice Zumba in any type of shoes as demonstrated by the Zumba instructors on the videos. However, you’d better be careful when you practice the dance steps with high heels. Don’t do Zumba in the bare feet, as it will become harmful to your health.

How Can I Lose More Weight at Zumba?

When you go to zumba classes at a gym, you may be tasked with following along with the instructor. There’s something powerful about doing that in a room full of other women, but to your body, it might not seem to make much of a difference.

The reason for this is that your legs are not emphasized in Zumba. That means you’re burning less calories.

So, if you want to lose weight, then follow along for the most part, but do your own thing when it comes to the movement. Move your legs as much as you want. You’ll burn more calories, and you’ll ward off injury.

Yes, you can actually cause yourself injury when doing Zumba; especially the kind of vigorous Zumba that is more accurately called Cardio Fusion.

You can, for example, injure your knees or your back. Your knees are put under stress when you do this dance workout without moving your legs enough. Your back is in danger of injury also, if you throw your shoulders into the routine without moving your arms.

Stay strong and fit, and dance your waistline into shape by just moving your own arms and legs as you dance.
